3.2.8.1 Background of the Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer Communication

The Peer-to-Peer communication employs two distinct modes: Tunneled Direct Link setup (TDLS) and Wi-Fi Alliance’s P2P. In the TDLS mode setup, both STAs must initially establish a connection with the same AP, with the management frames for the TDLS discovery and TDLS setup procedure being relayed through the AP. On the other hand, in the WFA P2P mode, the two STAs have the flexibility to associate with different APs, and they directly exchange the management frames between themselves. The distinction is graphically represented in Fig. 3.82.
